Well, Cecilia was born back in October… and time has sure been flying by! We have only had the opportunity to visit with her on a few instances, and the girls and I are so very excited to see our little baby cousin/neice each time we are able to get together! She has been dubbed “Miss Lil V”, because her mom is “Mrs. Lil V”. I am just “Mrs. V”, and my girls are… well… “Lil Miss V’s”.
The back story there involves the fact that both my sister-in-law and I are married to Mr. V’s and my husband is the older brother, her husband is the little brother… hence the “V” and “Lil V” connotation.
Honestly, it’s kinda funny how the concept of the initial has really stuck in our family. The entire notion of the “V” thing came out of necessity really.
When I met my now-husband, I was in my student teaching program in Santa Ana. I remember thinking that he was cute, and nice and all… but that this relationship couldn’t possibly go anywhere, because it would be a cruel joke to saddle me with such a funny and difficult last name, like Vredevelt! Well, as the story goes… things progressed, we fell in love- he told me he loved me one night with sweaty palms and a pounding heart, and I declared my love some weeks later at the top of the ferris wheel at the Del Mar Fair. We were engaged and got married about a year later! I guess God has a sense of humor!
Being that I am an elementary school teacher, it would be very difficult for my young students to pronounce my real last name, so I’ve shortened it to “V”. We even refer to ourselves as “Team V” sometimes. I really like the notion of being a “team”. That’s a good thing in this world. People who are on your side, pursuing the same goals!!! The V had a double meaning too… because the roman numeral V stands for the number 5 and we were a family of 5- so it all fit! But that last symbolism is going to be thrown out the window here in June, with the birth of our 6th immediate family member.
Anyway, we here at “Team V” want to welcome our not so new member (almost 4 months old), but yet the newest member of the family… to the family!
Welcome Cecilia Marie… we are glad you’re here!
