Sprinkler Fun…

One of the unique things about being a parent of younger children, is that you have to really pick your battles.  If I want to get something done, than I need to be willing to let things go… and then deal with the aftermath!

Sometimes that means that I have to spend 30 min. cleaning up toys after a long phone conversation, other times I have to completely re-clean the floor downstairs… because Campbelle and Rylie decided to help themselves to something yummy from the pantry, and then proceeded to dribble it all over the floor as they played!!  Either way, I am often in the position to have to decide… do I really want to take the time to get this or that done, and am I willing to deal with the aftermath??

The other day I was helping “organize” the garage.  I put that in quotes… to emphasize it!  We are ALWAYS organizing the garage.  Too much crap and not enough space to put it!  Anyway, I was on a roll!  Campbelle was playing nicely on the sidewalk in front of the house, and Rylie had taken interest in the bubbling sprinkler that was trying to provide some much needed water to a few dying patches of grass!

I continued to organize… the girls were given more rope than normal…  Rylie ended up soaked from head to toe!

The joys of youth!  When was the last time that you sprayed yourself down, fully clothed… in the name of simple summer sprinkler fun?

Summer Fun…

Several weeks ago we went to the Del Mar Fair, here in San Diego.  The fair is somewhat of a family tradition for Team V, and has some special significance for Mike and I.  This trip to the fair was different than in past years, because we went alone.  Just the 5 of us!  Having two little ones under 5 made it a bit more difficult than in previous years, but we had a lot of fun anyway.  Wesley and daddy snuck off for a ride or two for the big boys, but not until Campbelle had been taken on her first semi-roller coaster. She was too short to ride on most of the faster rides, and when we found this one (which reminded me of the “Grease Lightning” ride at Knott’s Berry Farm) she was so excited.  We stopped and bought tickets immediately.  When they were buckling her in, I have to admit, I was a bit nervous.  My little baby looked so LITTLE.  I worried that she would fly out when the ride got a’ goin’!  As the ride began to roll, her eyes got as big as saucers… and she screamed and laughed.  Mike and Wesley both held on to her, while the ride spun and the music blared.  Rylie and I watched in amusement.  When the ride was over, Campbelle came strolling out like the world’s most calm and collected little 4 year old.  She had so much fun.

Here are a few pics from the day.  I have such a hard time dragging my camera along on these kind of family outings, but when I don’t… I always wish I did!

Team V- Kids- Summer 2009

I had fun with the video feature on my CoolPix this morning.  We have a DVD camcorder thingy… but I can’t seem to figure out which cable I need to get to hook it up to my computer.  I was able to record right onto an SD card and plug it into my computer… with my CoolPix.  Chock one up for Nikon!

It is really hard for me to take pictures with this little point and shoot, when I have grown so accustom to my SLR… but sometimes I just can’t haul the big beast around with me.  I must confess, that it is nice to be able to stick a camera in my back pocket, and know that I’ll be able to capture some candid moments if I should choose to.

What is it about kids?  They always want to be bigger, older, and stronger than they are. Campbelle is always trying to keep up with her big brother… and Rylie is always trying to keep up with her big sister!  I’m always trying to enjoy each of them at the age that they are.

Here’s to bigger, badder… and stronger!

(love the way that C is looking up to her big bro. ohh and I’m not sure what was up with the flower… we have a ton of these pretty yellow flowers falling off of the cana-lilis in our back yard)

kids play

Summer mornings are so nice. This morning I was able to get up at 7:30 to a silent house. The kids all slept in until almost 8. That just doesn’t happen! So of course I relished every moment. I sat in the silence, opened up the windows and breathed in the cool summer morning air while sipping a warm cup o’ joe.

Then Campbelle stirred, then Rylie… then Wesley.    The ruckus began, breakfast… the playing the teasing, the screeching.  Then upstairs to get ready for the day.  All the girls ended up in Campbelle’s room while I tried to pick out her clothing for the day and do a little picking up.  I took a few pictures of the two sisters doing what little monkeys do… which of course is… jumping on the bed.

I just love this little sign that Campbelle has hanging on the post of her big girl bed. It is so appropriate for her. Thanks Aunt Rita.
